So I have heard that Google hates auto blogs, but what can you do to make sure that you get around this, or stay under the radar?

The best thing ultimately would be to write your own content, but if you must autoblog you have to find good feeds. Don't make it look like an autoblog.

Make everything unique, make sure to use different themes, different plugins, different web hosts.

Yea the best thing you can do is try to make it look like a normal blog. Google does in fact hate autoblogs.

Wow I have never heard that before. Looks like I will have to be a bit discreet about my autoblog's whenever I get around to making them.

Overall Google hates everything. Their goal is to get publishers to post their ADS get PPC on it, and then ban you. The richer google gets the more foolish they will become.

Have been using Adsense for many years, had no problems with them what so ever.
Just follow the TOS and your fine, means good quality content.
