I'm about to buy my url, but the name I want with the .com is taken. The name with the extensions .co and .us.com are available.

Are either of these a good idea. Or should I try to come up with a less desirable name with the more desirable .com extension??

I'm a sucker for .com's, if I cant get the com version, then I take the .org
I find another name if those two are not available.

Why not use .net, .info, .co, .us etc.? They all looks like cheap alternatives, but that's just me.

I have been buying quite a lot of my domains on sedo and was lucky to grab some nice domains back in the start of 2000 as well.
It's much much harder to find good .com's these days.

It depends on what you're wanting to do with the website.

If it's for a blog, you really ought to find a .com

Other things maybe you haven't thought about.  Have you tried putting in dashes like:  my-domain-name.com    or   make-money-forum.com?
